Based on F. M. Alexander’s discovery of the Primary Control, the Alexander Technique is the process of psychophysical reeducation by which the self learns to behave as a whole. The technique teaches improved use of the body and provides the tools with which one can identify and eliminate poor habits that cause stress, fatigue and pain. The process of change can begin when one follows the five principles that, taken together, make the Alexander Technique unique. They are:

  1. Recognition of Force of Habit

  2. Inhibition and Non-Doing

  3. Recognition of Faulty Sensory Awareness

  4. Sending Direction

  5. The Primary Control
